MURPHY’S LAW
There’s always a surprise
In the best-ordered system,
A disappointment
In dreams come true.
The course of true love
Never runs smooth,
And we always shoot ourselves
In the foot.
Murphy was a man
(but he could have been a woman),
A great friend of Socrates
Who never knew what was coming.
He studied form,
Looking for a dead cert
And we do know
That’s a very dark horse.
The margin of error
Gets bigger all the time,
Unless you invoke
The Law of Murphy.
He was a great scientist
Who knew he was wrong,
And Mrs Murphy, like Mrs Socrates,
Always kept him right.
